Keely Crossing
St. John’s Parochial School is a 3½-story Victorian institutional building constructed in 1887. The building is composed of load-bearing red brick masonry with a cut brownstone foundation and capped with a slate roof. Character-defining exterior features include a one-story arched brick and brownstone entry porch, carved brownstone window lintels and sills, and a raised central gable with cross that replaced an original belfry. Windows are set in arched openings with brownstone trim.Interior features include wide double-loaded corridors, fluted moldings, rosettes, and pressed tin ceilings in many rooms. The building retains its original sixteen-classroom layout, which aligns with the proposed residential unit configuration. The building is located on the western edge of St. John’s Square and remains connected to the adjacent St. John’s Church by a historic brownstone archway. It retains high architectural integrity in materials, design, and setting.
This certified history adaptive reuse and restoration project will convert the building into 16 apartments utilizing state & federal historic tax credits.
