Monte Cristo

The Monte Cristo building is situated on the corner of Union and Methodist streets in Downtown New London, CT. The Building was constructed in 1906 by James O’Neill and was originally intended as a parking garage, showroom, and workshop.

The historical significance of the building extends beyond its architectural and structural attributes; it encapsulates the history of the O'Neill family's contributions to downtown New London. Built and operated by James O'Neill, Eugene O'Neill's father, the Monte Cristo garage, workshop, and showroom witnessed the evolution of the automotive industry in the early 1900s and reflect the socio-economic landscape of Downtown New London during its operational years.

This certified history adaptive reuse and restoration project will convert the building into 18 apartments utilizing state & federal historic tax credits.
